CHAPTER 4- AUTO-SUGGESTION
THE MEDIUM FOR INFLUENCING THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND
“AUTOSUGGESTION is a term which applies to al1 suggestions and all
self-administered stimuli which reach one’s mind through the five
senses. Stated in another way, auto-suggestion is self-suggestion.
It is the agency of communication between that part of the mind
where conscious thought takes place, and that which serves as
the seat of action for the subconscious mind. Through the dominating
thoughts which one permits to remain in the conscious mind,
(whether these thoughts be negative or positive, is immaterial),
the principle of autosuggestion voluntarily reaches the
subconscious mind and influences it with these thoughts” -
Napoleon Hill
Let’s do a word study, the paragraph above is Hill’s definition
for autosuggestion or as we often refer to is as self-talk, that
the message we are feeding to or receiving from our subconscious mind.
Hill tells us in Chapter 1 “Thoughts are things” and the only
things we have control of are our thoughts.
To add to a better understanding of self-talk I look to words
related to autosuggestion such as thought, suspicion, indication,
notion, connotation, allusion, whisper, inkling, strain, signification,
telltale, breath, cue, vein, reminder, insinuation, trace, symbol,
clue, and smack.
I find it significant that one of the words above was breath. I have
chosen to make my self-talk as automatic as taking a breath. In drawing
in the positive emotions of love, joy, and peace. Exhaling a message of
assurance, confidence, and notions of the success that is around me and
in me.
“You were instructed, in the last of the six steps described in the
chapter on Desire, to read aloud twice daily the written statement of
your desire for money, and to see and feel yourself already in possession
of the money! By following these instructions, you communicate the object
of your desire directly to your subconscious mind in a spirit of absolute
faith.
Through repetition of this procedure, you voluntarily create thought habits
which are favorable to your efforts to transmute desire into its monetary
equivalent.” Napoleon Hill
Mentoring for Free has opened to me the real power in doing my self-talk.
Not the vain repetition of someone else’s word, but the words from my heart,
soul, and mind. Words ignited by my emotions, which speaks to my very being
and compels me to be more and do more.
