Chapter 5 - Specialiezed Knowledge

Hill tells us in this chapter that millions of people falsely believe
that "knowledge is power. He also points out that knowledge is only
potential power that has to be organized into definite plans of action
and directed to a definite end.  Action has to be taken for knowledge
to become power.

Hill in this chapter is talking about attracting money but the principle
is also true in other areas of our lives.  We have heard Michael Dlouhy
say many times "In order to make more, you have to become more."  That
power of having the knowledge that we all need personal development
is not enough.  Knowing it does not get us there.  We have to do
something about it.

These think and Grow Rich Lesson and the color training calls will give 
us the knowledge and the action plan for us to "become more."  Yet,
people will come to this platform and stay a short while and think they got
enough, think it takes too long, think they don't have the time, etc. etc. etc.
and they leave.  Maybe they think this is just too simple for it to really
work and they miss out because they are not willing enough to stay the course.

Without personal development we will not have the confidence to do the
actions that are needed to build a large business if we have never done it
before, and most of us have not. 

Darren L Johnson states "Based on my pool of coached clients, 90% of the 
challenges for business owners exist in a lack of personal development."

We can harness that power by being here, posting our thoughts, reading 
other posts, participating on the calls and not giving up.  We may not notice
the "more" that we are becoming right away but we will as long as we 
"stick with it" until we do.  

We can become, as Michael Dlouhy says,"Ten foot tall and bullet proof."

Chapter 8 - Decision

Hill tells us in this chapter "Keep in mind the fact 
that every person with whom you associate is, like yourself, 
seeking the opportunity to accumulate money."

WOW!  That is very interesting.

So, why don't they all join us when we present them our
opportunity?

Hill answers that for us "ACCURATE analysis of over 25,000 
men and women who had experienced failure, disclosed the 
fact that LACK OF DECISION was near the head of the list 
of the 30 major causes of FAILURE."

It is easier for people to just say "no" because that to
them does not feel like a decision. People do not want to 
make a decision!

It takes effort to make a decision and then stick with it.
We are then accountable and have to do something.  We don't 
want to fail, we don't want to change, we don't want to be
criticized by our family and friends.  So "NO" is the easy
way out. If we say "no" we won't be able to fail.  Fear 
of the loss of "something" is at the head of the list.  

Hill also points out to us "Those who reach DECISIONS promptly 
and definitely, know what they want, and generally get it. The 
leaders in every walk of life DECIDE quickly, and firmly. That 
is the major reason why they are leaders. The world has the 
habit of making room for the man whose words and actions show 
that he knows where he is going.  

As Hill pointed out every person is seeking the opportunity 
to accumulate money but not all are willing to make the decision
to do anything about it.  We are looking for the leaders and
leaders are not afraid to make a decision and take action.

Jim Rohn stated "It doesn't matter which side of the fence you get 
off on sometimes. What matters most is getting off. You cannot make 
progress without making decisions."

Chapter 5 - Specialized Knowledge

Shawn Achor wrote "We sometimes think that the best doctors are the ones who 
have the most specialized knowledge or the fanciest degrees, 
but in fact, study upon study, including one published in 
the 'New England Journal of Medicine,' show that the best 
doctors are the ones who also know how to connect with 
their patients."

We may not be doctors but we can also have the belief that
the ones who have the most specialized knowledge about our
products and how our compensation plan works, etc, etc. when
really the best Network Marketers are the ones who know how
to connect with their clients.

We can use "Network Marketing language" because we are so
familiar with it and our clients are wondering what foreign
language we are speaking.  It is specialized knowledge to
us but to the client who has never been in Network Marketing
it is just blabber because they have no clue to understanding
what we are saying.

Hill tells us that "the word "educate” is derived from the Latin
word “educo,” meaning to educe, to draw out, to DEVELOP FROM WITHIN. 
An educated man is not, necessarily, one who has an abundance 
of general or specialized knowledge.

An educated man is one who has so developed the faculties of 
his mind that he may acquire anything he wants, or its equivalent, 
without violating the rights of others."

Is it "violating the rights of others" if we talk to prospects who
we would like to do business with and we talk to them in such a
way that they can't understand?  If they cannot understand, we are
basically taking away their opportunity because without understanding
what they are offered people will automatically reject the offer.

So how do we acquire the specialized knowledge to learn now to speak
with our clients so they will understand our language and be open to
our opportunity and be willing to connect with us.

We have two resources available to anyone who wants to learn. We have 
this Think & Grow Rich call so we can become the person people will know
like and trust and the other resource is the Personality color training 
call where we learn why people do what they do and we learn how to talk 
to them in their language.

As Hill stated "Specialized knowledge may be found just around the
corner—any corner!"  We just have to know what we are looking for.

Chapter 3 - Faith

We have all heard the saying "Network Marketing is 
a personal development program with a compensation 
plan attached to it."

We have also heard Michael Dlouhy state that some have
said they were not sure they would like who they become
when they go through the Think & Grow Rich personal development
program.

Those comments are showing lack of faith.  Lack of faith
in the program, lack of faith in self and lack of faith
and fear of change.  

Michael Dlouhy tells us "In order to make more we must
become more". We must change our thinking and our thinking
must change our actions.  Without change in thinking and
change in actions, we will stay where we are, we will 
not move forward and will never see the success we are desiring. 

Thomas Aquinas tells us "To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. 
To one without faith, no explanation is possible."

In other words, if we have belief and faith that we will grow and become
the people that can create the lifestyle we desire we will know
we need personal development and change.  To the ones what do
not believe they need personal development will never understand because they
will not take the time to participate and will not change.

John Paul Jones stated "If fear is cultivated it will become 
stronger, if faith is cultivated it will achieve mastery."

Everything in life comes down to choice.  Will we choose fear
or will we choose faith.  

As Mary McLeod Bethune stated "Faith is the first factor in 
a life devoted to service. Without it, nothing is possible. 
With it, nothing is impossible."

Chapter 15 - How to Outwit the Six Ghosts of Fear

"You are being selfish!" is what I was told, and that was
so true.

I don't know how to write.  I don't know what to write.
I can't speak up on the calls because I don't know what
to say.  What if what I say or write sounds stupid to
others?

Fear can make us selfish!

If I only concentrate and are fearful of saying and doing
anything because I am concerned with my feelings only, I am
being selfish.  I had to take a good look at myself and what
I was telling myself, justifying why I was not wanting to
participate.  

Being selfish is being overly concerned with self and not
thinking of the other person.  Even the Bible tells us 
"YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."

Loving our neighbor as ourselves is thinking about how we
treat and talk to them, how we make them feel not how we
feel.  Taking the focus off of ourselves and placing that focus
on others is, as the Dictionary describes, unselfishness as 
"having no concern for self : UNSELFISH".

Hermann Hesse is quoted as saying "You are only afraid if you 
are not in harmony with yourself. People are afraid because 
they have never owned up to themselves."

Sometimes we need "Tough Love" to recognize what is holding 
us back and sometimes it is just being told "You are selfish!"

Dorothy Thompson stated "Only when we are no longer afraid do we 
begin to live."

Chapter 3 - Faith

We have to have faith in all areas as we live our lives 
day to day.

My husband is losing his memory but he still needs to have
faith in me being his caregiver and that I am doing the best
I can for him.  There are times when he questions that because
memories can play tricks and I have to realize and accept that
his mindset can change from minute to minute.

A while ago George misplaced his wallet. We needed his licence 
and care card for identification so it was critical in certain 
situations. When the memory fades they look for safe places to put
what is important to them so they will not lose them.  But with
memory fading the safe places are no longer safe places because
the important things like wallets cannot be found.  After a couple
of months I found the wallet but I did not tell George.  I had
to have the faith that I was doing the right thing in keeping
the wallet safe in my purse for the times where the information
in the wallet would be needed.

About a year ago he misplaced the truck keys and to this day
they have never been found.  We did sell the truck so it is
no longer an issue. But, number of months ago he misplaced his car keys. 
We searched everywhere but they were nowhere to be found.  Then one day
I looked again and found the keys nestled nicely in an eye glass case.
They get very inventive.  I did not tell George I found the keys because
I did not feel it was of the best interest for him to be driving
anymore.  So I placed the keys in my purse as a second set for the
"just in case" situations that could arise.

I have to have the faith in myself that I am doing the right
and best thing for both George and myself in keeping these things
from him.  The more the memory fades the less they understand
situations and what could happen in any situation.  All George knows
is that he has been driving since he was twelve so why can't he
drive now.  Explaining does not help because he does not understand
what the problem could be.  

So today when he tells me he is going to drive, I just
ask him if he found his license and he says no and then sits in the
passenger seat.  I do not give him keys anymore because he misplaces them.

As Susan L. Taylor states "Seeds of faith are always within us; 
sometimes it takes a crisis to nourish and encourage their growth." 

Faith in God and in our selves is critical in moving forward in
any area of our lives.

Chapter 2 - Desire

Barnes believed so much in himself and attaining what he
desired that he said "I will burn all bridges behind me, 
and stake my ENTIRE FUTURE on my ability to get what I want.”

He did not say I will stake my entire future on my desire.
What he said was "I will stake my ENTIRE FUTURE on my ability 
to get what I want.”

Ability is the capacity, fitness, or tendency to act or be 
acted on in a (specified) way.

Barnes was not just counting on the fact that he had a huge 
desire; he was staking his future on his ability to act 
on achieving it and sticking to it until it became a reality.

W. Clement Stone has said "When you discover your mission, 
you will feel its demand. It will fill you with enthusiasm 
and a burning desire to get to work on it."  

And Barnes "got to work on it" until he achieved his desire.
His mind was focused, persistent and consistent in everything 
he did.  He did not let his dream die. Barnes did not concern 
himself with how long it would take, he was not concerned with 
what he had to do to get there, he was not fearful that it 
would never happen.  These things did not enter his mind.  

Baltasar Gracian has said "When desire dies, fear is born."

Barnes did not let his desire die and what a great example for
us today.  When our business is not going as we expect, when it
is taking longer than anticipated, when we get the "no's" are we
still focused, persistent and consistent in our actions.
Are we willing to continue to begin again and again when situations
stop us, or do we tell ourselves "that is enough, I quit".  

Barnes never said "that is enough, I quit" 

HIll tells us "Five years passed before the chance he (Barnes) had been 
seeking made its appearance. During all those years not one ray 
of hope, not one promise of attainment of his DESIRE had been 
held out to him. To everyone, except himself, he appeared only 
another cog in the Edison business wheel, but in his own mind, 
HE WAS THE PARTNER OF EDISON EVERY MINUTE OF THE TIME, from the 
very day that he first went to work there."

Will we stick with it for five years like Barnes did? Will we 
stick with it for 10 years or 15 years?  How big is our desire
and are we willing to "stake our ENTIRE FUTURE on our ability 
to get what we want.”
